Sholayur Service Co-operative Bank was officially registered on 08/05/2001 and began its operations on 28/05/2001. Initially operating out of a small room, the bank served the entire Sholayur Panchayath region, primarily catering to local tribes, nominal agriculturists, and laborers. In its early years, the bank focused on collecting deposits and issuing gold loans.

In 2008, the bank underwent a major transformation by computerizing its operations with Sesame Software, significantly improving efficiency and customer service. Today, Sholayur Service Co-operative Bank operates out of a fully furnished modern building and offers a broad range of services including deposits, MMBS, gold loans, and both short-term and medium-term loans for agricultural and non-agricultural purposes.

The bank also manages a Neethi Supermarket in Kottathara and, with Government assistance, has launched a coconut processing unit producing NERMA Coconut Oil. The institution is governed by a 13-member Board of Management, with the last election held on 22/01/2022.

Through its dedicated service, Sholayur Service Co-operative Bank continues to play a pivotal role in the financial empowerment and development of the local community.
